About Ian
Ian was born in 1959 in Flint, Wales, UK.
His most noted earlier roles were recurring roles in "Brookside" (as Stephen Nolan) and "Eastenders" (as Jimmy), and as Angela Cunningham's boyfriend, Terry Williams, in "Hollyoaks" (1995-1997ish). Later he had a recurring role as Sam Dennish in "Holby City" and has appeared twice as a recurring character in "The Bill", as Alan Best and later Mick Glover.
He has had lead roles in the BBC drama "Conviction" and BBC series "Funland", and was also a major role in "Vincent" (alongside Ray Winstone). He has also acted alongside David Jason in "Ghostboat" and "The Colour Of Magic". More recently he could be seen in "Waterloo Road", "Tess of the D'Ubervilles", "Desperate Romantics" and "Being Human", and he has now become part of the British institution of the long running ITV soap, "Coronation Street", playing Owen Armstrong.
Ian has made appearances in the BBC's "Hustle", "Life On Mars", "Daziel and Pascoe", "Silent Witness", "Waking The Dead", "The Street" and ITV's "Foyle's War". He appeared in ground-breaking docu-drama "Richard is my Boyfriend" for Channel 4, and it was to his character in "Alan Partridge" that Steve Coogan famously uttered the line, "back of the net!". Ian's advance onto the big screen came in Guy Ritchie's "Revolver".
Ian is also a talented screen writer, writing the much acclaimed, "Dirty, Filthy Love" about his own experiences dealing with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. This won the BAFTA Award for "Best Single Drama".
Ian is the patron of Red Dot Drama, having made good friends with the company's director (Helena Little) at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Apparently they once travelled to Kenya together for a holiday with Helena's family - a trip which, to this day, her parents have been unable to forget! Ian is also a patron of the CALM Centre a charity that provides counselling and therapeutic services to the community of Harlow and surrounding areas.
Ian lives in North London with his long term partner, Sue, and daughter, Maggie.
